REPOST: Reinstall when migrating ro similar server?

Running 8.1.7 and am hearing that Oracle will not support my installation if I migrate it from an IBM SP2 node to a new IBM 6H1 pseries box without reinstalling the binaries on the new box first. What? Is normal or is someone feeding me nonsense?

My new and old IBM RS/6000 boxes have different PA-RISC chips in them but the new ones are backwardly compatable. I could understand having to reinstal Oracle if I was going from PA-RISC to SPARC or MIPS but having to reinstall Oracle when moving from one IBM RS/6000 to another seems too paranoid to mandate extra work involved.

Has anyone else had this experience?

Comments appreciated.
