Standby Database on Unix

We're running Oracle9i on Unix and we want to create a standby
database in case something goes wrong.  Is it possible to create the
standby database on a separate server (same OS)?  If os, could someone
please provide the procedures on how to do that?  I only found
procedures on how to create a standby database on the same server on
the Oracle website.
