Batch update performance

Hi everyone,
  Where can i find some resources on perfoming efficient batch updates in Oracle?
I tried looking at the archives for resources, and found some relavent messages which talked about oracle documenting it, but i am not able to find it in any of the oracle reference documents available online. Right now im using a stored procedure to update , and commiting after 400 records. (total no. of updates = 100000)
