move away from Oracle to DB2 "NO"
Implement on DB2 as well as Oracle "YES"
Why,
marketing response
To increase their customer base by picking up traditional big iron customers
financial response
A couple of years ago Oracle starting getting super greedy and changed their licensing
agreement, charging far more than anyone else for their database. Customers most affected were these vendors who were at the mercy ofOracle. In stepped IBM and offered all of them big discounts to port to DB2. Oracle in their never ending drive to get bigger and bigger have to push their crappy Oracle apps to get more customers, problem is their biggest value added customers i.e SAP/ Peoplesoft now become their competitors.
I occasionally work for a software company who are also porting to DB2 as
well as Oracle
some of the guys now support both DB2 and Oracle
From technical perspective DB2 is powerful/robust/stable/disciplined/boring
and stuffy, Oracle
is dynamic/exciting/bleeding edge/flaky/overhyped and bug ridden. I'm
sticking with Oracle
Oracle have since back tracked on the controversial licensing agreement.
my 2cents worth
