It's like Howard says -

- what did you loose ?
- do you still have system, redologs and datafiles ?
- you're only backup is an export dump ? or is the DB running in archivelog
mode ?

if you just lost your temp, rollback, indexes -> no biggy if you lost your system tablespace -> screwed

so more info is required - but the sentence 'I lost a hard drive and everything went to heck thereafter' is for me a big sign that the 'recreate DB, import one-week-old-dump' is the only recovery scenario here ...
