PB with export

Hi,

I try to export a user from a remote database:

exp system/manager_at_SID file=export.dmp owner=john

I get the error:
ORA-00904 invalid column name
for all the columns of all the tables of the user john

The local machine is: HP-UX 11.0,Oracle 8.1.7 The remote machine is: W2000, Oracle 8.1.6

What is wrong ????
