8.1.7 installation issue on RedHat 7.1

Hi,

I have attempted to install Oracle 8.1.7 R3 on my RedHat 7.1 (PII, 512MB RAM, 40GB HD) and have followed the instructions at http://jordan.fortwayne.com/oracle/817.html as my guide.

I get to the part where I run the installer (/usr/src/Disk1/runInstaller) and I get the following message:

Initializing Java Virtual Machine from
../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expanded/linux/bin/jre. Please wait...

but nothing else happens. My environment a the time as these Oracle variables set:

ORACLE_BASE=/u01/app/oracle
ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7
ORACLE_SID=ora1

When I do a ps -fu oracle, it indicates that the process is still running but I don't get any Java install GUI.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
