ISTR that Oracle 8 was built against the version of GLIBC supplied with RedHat 6.2, and has problems with 7.x, as it uses GLIBC 2.2, as opposed to GLIBC 2.1. I think that Oracle make some stub libraries available for download to make it work with 7.x.
