By the time you're doing advanced tuning, the best books are those that tell you about Oracle internals and give you the knowledge to analyse your performance problem at all levels. (Then blame the developers anyway :-)

Authors to look for are Steve Adams, Jonathan Lewis, and James Morle.

Steve Adams and Jonathan Lewis both have excellent web sites with large amounts of internals information.
