In this particular case it means that the official maintainer hasn't gotten around to blessing it. He's a busy guy. But if it makes you feel better, his web page <http://www.gzip.org/> recommends <ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/gzip/gzip-1.3.2.tar.gz> for Solaris 2.6.

It's your choice. In my experience, 1.3.2 is far more reliable than 1.2.4 is. It also fixes some security holes, if you care about that sort of thing.
