oracle 9i installation

I just installed Oracle 9i database, and received some errors on install. The installation is still functional, although I don't know enough about Oracle to tell if it's complete. One thing is for certain - I had much better luck with 9i than when I tried to get 8i personal and Enterprise manager on the same box (tried on 98 SE and NT 4.0). It appears that Oracle combined these two when 9i was released.

Here's the configuration:

Windows 2000 Professional
AMD K6-2 350
192 MB RAM
20 GB free hard disk on C:

I installed 9i and selected "enterprise edition", along with a general purpose sample database. I am also working from an 8i book which appears to have some different tables in the database (e.g. AMY tables exist in the book but not on my 9i installation).

I received the following error during the final stage of installation:

Assertion failed!
Program: C:\oracle\ora90\bin\xsaagent.exe File: vpipe.C
Line: 72
Expression: rc >= 0

After hitting "retry", I got the following error:

The exception breakpoint.
A breakpoint has been reached
(0x80000003) occurred in the application at location 0x7800d9cb Click OK to terminate
Click cancel to debug the program

On my first installation attempt, I got this error several times, regardless of whether I hit "retry" or "ignore". I uninstalled (via the Oracle Installer), and reinstalled with the same configuration (but I used a different name for the sample database). The uninstallation does not clean up all of its old entries, so there were a few services left behind. The next installation yielded the same xsaagent.exe error, and this time I hit "abort". To my surprise, the installation seemed to complete, and the error did not return.

This time around, I checked the installation log. There was nothing in the error log, but the last entry in the installation log (just as the error occurred) was:

InstallCommand = C:\oracle\ora90\bin\xsaagent.exe /infile C:\oracle\ora90\olap\admin\olap.cfg > /dev/null

So, what is the significance of this error? How do I tell if the installation is truly complete? How do I get rid of this error?

thanks,
