Because Solaris supports 64-bit very large databases - and has done so now for _years_! - and NT/2000 hasn't even been released yet for that environment.
And a host of other reasons to do with properly supporting a solid, industrial-quality production environment.

Nah. Not really. They prolly couldn't care less. MS is digging its own grave better than anybody else could.

Again, not really. The db is ported to every other type of box, but it's not "just" a port. It's also tuned to take advantage of each specific environment's features. Don't let that stop you from using NT if you so wish.
