Here's the latest from Oracle:
Oracle 8.1.6 is not certified on RedHat 7.1 only upto 6.2 EE

Oracle 8.1.7 is not yet certified on RedHat 7.1 but is in the process to

be (no time scales available)

It is certified on RedHat 7.0

Oracle 9.0.1 is certified on RedHat 7.1

If you use a non-certified combination Oracle will not give you support!!
