I must disagree with you. If you are at your job you can and should of course extend the tablespaces in a well-planned manner, but you could be away, no only for holidays but also for other not-planned reasons. Traffic accidents come to mind.

"His last words in the ambulance was: For goods sake - make those tablespaces auto extend on!"
