Generally speaking for me autoextend on *without* upper limit means I loose control. It means that when disaster strikes (all my disks are full) I can't do anything to resolve it. I know of situations where the maximum size of tablespaces is negotiated in Service Level Agreements. In those situations it takes at least *14* days to get approval to extend the space allocated to it.
You don't want to have end up in a fix with such a SLA.
