Enterprise Manager is a bunch of services used to interact with a database. So whether you can log onto the database yourself is a matter of total irrelevance! What you need to do is to make sure the bunch of services has started, and then log into them -and the log in to the services has a completely different username/password than anything that resides on the actual database.

On Windows, this is done by starting the relevant Management Server service in the Services Control Panel applet. Then you can fire up the Management Server application, and log on to the services as SYSMAN, password OEM_TEMP (all lower case in practice, however). You'll be prompted to change that password immediately.

After that, it should be plain sailing. Mail me if you have further problems.

HJR
