Hello there!
I have Oracle 8i 8.1.6 on W2000 and I want to be able to connect to
the server via SPX protocol, not TCP/IP. In order to that, I set so
far:
- the Windows network protocol adapter for SPX. (NWLink
IPX/SPX/NetBIOS)
- Oracle support for SPX
- one listener for SPX protocol
- one net service with SPX support
- cman.ora file with the following settings:
cman=(ADDRESS_LIST=
(ADDRESS=
(PROTOCOL=SPX)
(SERVICE=MONA90_lsnr)
)
(ADDRESS=
(PROTOCOL=TCP)
(HOST=10.0.0.90)
(PORT=1600)
)
)
cman_admin = (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=10.0.0.90)(PORT=1830))
With these settings, I was able:
- to start the listener
- to start the cman and cman_admin services from the windows ui
With these settings, I was NOT able:
- to start cman/cman_admin services from cmctl utility (start
command). The cmctl never reports these services as running despite
the fact that I can see them with my own eyes. (However, if I delete
the SPX settings from cman.ora, the cmctl utility works very well)
- to connect to the server using the SPX lisener.
So, I would really need some information on the following subjects:
- first of all, I need to know if Connection Manager is fully
functional on Oracle 8i 8.1.6 Personal Edition. The docs say no, but I
can see the services and I can start them. They are listed just for
fun?
- what steps are required to follow for a proper configuration of the
connection manager?
- how can I check if the SPX support is set OK? (I set the service to
'MONA90_lsnr' because was the default value ORACLE suggested to me. Is
there a place where I could check if this is the correct value?)
If you need more information, let me know...
Thank you for your time.
VG.
