I've seem other appends about this error on various platforms but so far none of the suggestions helped me.

The following errors occurs when creating a new database during installation of Oracle 8.1.7.0.0 on Windows 2000 (SP2). It happens when the database creation progress bar is at 90%:

ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel
ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE
ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE

...
ORA-01012: not logged on
ORA-01081: cannot start already-running ORACLE - shut it down first
ORA-01092: ORCALE instance terminated. Disconnection forces.
ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE

...

ORA-01092: ORCALE instance terminated. Disconnection forces. ORA-03114: not connected to ORACLE
...

What should be done to dig further into this problem? Could it be a HW problem (is it related to the network card)?

Best regards
