oracle datafile over 2GB - how to get data out?

Hi everyone,

I wonder if you can help me. There's a couple of us here running an Oracle 8i database on Solaris 2.x, that was developed by an external company, and we're kind of picking it up bit by bit. Unfortunately, we've only just found out (a little too late!) that our system only supports file sizes of us to 2GB. The primary datafile in one of our tablespaces has just gone over that size (it's 2052.72MB) and I now can't run any SQL commands on the table without getting errors. Now, I'd be quite happy to just archive the oldest data out of the main table in the tablespace onto a CD, but I can't do this without running SQL commands on the table!

The weird thing is, when using TOAD as an interface, I can look at the rows in the table up to a certain point before I start getting the same error (presumably before the size limit). Does anybody know whether I'm likely to be able to remove either the old data (and hopefully back it up) or remove the last four days of data (which is how long ago it went over the 2GB limit, and is data I can cope with losing)?
