One *slight* correction:

Oracle officially certified Oracle9i db on SuSe Linux 7.1, kernel 2.4.4 with glibc 2.2 *ONLY*. This means that although it may run on other flavors of linux with different kernel and glibc versions, Oracle doesn't guarantee it will and generally doesn't provide any technical support for such configurations. You may try to run 9i db on mandrake 8.0 betas, but the outcome may not be satisfying: you may have to downgrade both kernel and glibc to certified versions, which in turn may impact system stability. Remember, Oracle's preferred platform is still Sun SPARC Solaris... :)
