Did you ever get your answer? Because this is exactly what I am getting. I am running Mandrake 8.0 and installing Oracle 8.1.6 and it hangs with an OK and when I press enter it goes back to the shell promt. I also am running the Same verision of Oracle on another Mandrake version (7.1) and it is running like a champ. These other posts, although I'm sure the authors are trying are not leading you down the right path. Switching distributions can not be the only answer.

Thanks
