You may have far fewer problems with
pinging - if you define pinging as writing
a buffer block to disc because a different
instance wants to take it in exclusive mode.
However, I think you would be over-optimistic to believe that you can forget about having to partition your application across your servers unless it is a lightweight application and there are only two instances.
