Unfortunately my version of Oracle (7.3.4)nay be too early to use this function. Here are the errors I am getting:

Errors for FUNCTION GET_LONG:

LINE/COL ERROR

8/17     PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "IMMEDIATE" when expecting one
         of the following:
		  := . ( @ % ;
	   The symbol ":= was inserted before "IMMEDIATE" to continue.

11/8     PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol "INTO" when expecting one of
         the following: . ( * @ % & = - + ; < / > in mod not rem an exponent (**)

<> or != or ~= >= <= <> and or like between is null is not ||
