OK, at the risk of being totally redundant here, and let's end this
thread -
1. The very term 'Abort' means 'Danger'!
Think not? Then try it - If you do not work with a test DB or two,
then you have no buisness guessing what happens. Abort the database,
back up and restore - if it works 99 out of 100 times, with 10 minutes
or 2 days worth of lost data, are you still gonna have a job? If the
answer is yes, then have fun and relax 'cause you work somewhere that
the data is not important! Otherwise, let's let the people who do put
in the REAL info - trust nothing, backup multiple times and ways!!!!!
You never know when a file will be corrupted etc.
As a DBA, my job is to be totally and completely prepared for ANY
thing that occurs - if you aren't, then someone else will have your
job soon!
Look at it this way, how many times can you pull the plug out of the
back of your computer while running ('aborting' the OS) before you
start to suffer?
Game, set, championship point!
Let me know where you work cause if you believe that you can always
recover from or trust a backup after a shutdown abort - your employer
is being very shortchanged and will pay for good advice and practices!
