Hi,
I think this will help.
The file is actually in cpio format.
You have to try this command to get the installable files
$ cat 817solaris.cpio.gz | cpio -icd
This will create a directory Disk1 under which runInstaller can be found..
Ensure that enough disk space is there, for Disk1 to get created.
