Hi,
my problem just started yesterday--with no known system changes, a client
running 8.1.6.0.0 (oracle client) now fails to connect to an oracle 8i
server running on win2k (the client is also a win2k server). No other
clients have a problem. The error i get is ORA-12637: Packet receive
failed. I've checked the tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora files, and they are
exactly like everyone else's. the funny part is if i bounce the listener on
the oracle server, this client can then connect--albeit for only a short
time (about a minute or so). i am testing the connection with net 8
assistant...i've tried using the 8 and 8i connection strings to no avail
(i.e. the compatible mode). The listener.log looks ok even when the client
reports the error:
17-AUG-2001 11:09:37 *
(CONNECT_DATA=(SERVICE_NAME=MyService)(CID=(PROGRAM=C:\Program
Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.7\bin\jrew.exe)(HOST=MyHost)(USER=chris))) *
(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(HOST=XXX.XX.X.XX)(PORT=1435)) * establish * ids.sec
* 0
I removed and reinstalled all of the oracle software on this
computer...before i did this, i was getting a No listener error, and now,
after the re-install, i get the 12637 error. TNSPING has always worked
(though i know this doesn't actually perform a connect...thus the net 8
assistant test)
Please help!!
