Eileen,

This is not a duplication, but an upgrade. Also Unix and NT are not compatible, so the *only* way is: exp on Unix and imp on NT (don't forget to ftp those files binary, or you will create real havoc). That said you don't need to shut the development database, though IMO a database which can't be shut down is not a development database.
