Multi-Threaded Server trades memory for response time. MTS allows you to conserver or reduce the memory consumption by Oracle but at the expense of response time.

I just got done getting rid of MTS because when coming into the DB via a dedicated connection (vs. MTS) the batch run times went from 4 - 6 HOURS to under 1 hour.
