500 days on an oracle release without applying a patch? sounds like MySQL would handle your RDBMS needs.

I would have to add that "Tasks of an Oracle DBA" would have to include:

• read the release notes of patch sets issued by Oracle to determine if said patches should be applied to databases under you administrative watch.
• read the support matrix to determine "De-Support Dates" for your OS and Oracle RDBMS version. These are rather frequent these days.

or you could bury your head in the sand and quote your uptime.
