While patching Oracle 8.1.7.0.0 EE server on Sun Solaris 8 10/00 intel platform the installer spitted out lots of errors during linking process.
The installActions.log file contained a lot of errors similar to this one below.
Calling action unixActions1.7.1.8.0 make
installMakePath = /usr/ccs/bin/make installMakeFileName =
/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/rdbms/lib/ins_rdbms.mk
installTarget = install undoMakeFileName = installArguments = ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7, logFile = /u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/install/make.log undoTarget =
Exception thrown from action: make
Exception Name: MakefileException
Exception String: Error in invoking target install of makefile
/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/rdbms/lib/ins_rdbms.mk
Exception Severity: 1

/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/rdbms/lib/ins_rdbms.mk

Then I checked the make.log -- there was bunch of fatal errors like this one.
ld: fatal: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to
/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/rdbms/lib/imp
make: Fatal error: Command failed for target
`/u01/app/oracle/product/8.1.7/rdbms/lib/imp'
Does anybody have a clue what those errors mean?
