Sam, if you are new to oracle, the structured learning and practice you would get from preparing for the exams will be beneficial. Don't worry about all those negative nellies. Having the certificate may help and won't hurt. Any yahoo that says they would look down on somebody for attaining an OCP can go suck an egg. I think the important part is what you know and what you can do. Make sure that you install oracle, create a database and practice. Just keep learning and try to get a job working with oracle if you can. If you can't get a job as a dba, try to get one as a developer or network tech (I would advise Unix), etc. Any tech job will do, just start getting experience.
