I refer back to the OO extentions and object tables and say Oracle 9i vs.SQL99 ....

I do agree with Mark on the CONNECT BY. Nothing prevented Orcale from bringing it to the standard though. The trick about feature extentions is to take a best guess and then bring it to the standrads ASAP. Best to talk about it before putting it in.
The MERGE statement and OLAP functions show nicely that this can be done. So when Oracle and IBM talk to each other good can come out of it for the customers.
