Hi,

a segment is the collection of extents that belong to an object. For example , if you have a table EMP with 6 extents of 1MB, those extents together are 1 segment of 6MB, with the name EMP. Also if you have an index EMP_IDX, you will also have a segment EMP_IDX which consists of all extents of that index.
