I've often wondered about that too, I have to say, since I don't think any swapped sort information genuinely gets to the log files anyway (though I'd imagine that the first swap that causes the creation of the temporary segment causes the relevant entries on the data dictionary tables to be logged, whereas 'nologging' would stop that). Hardly a show stopper, I agree.
The issue is moot, of course, with the 8.1.x 'create temporary tablespace blah tempfile 'x/x/x.dbf'" syntax, since that's automatically a nologging construct.
