PMON (?) will get rid of the process, but the time varies.
It's usually gone in less than a minute. But I have seen
times when it took a day or more - if you watch
v$session.serial# for this killed session, and serial# keeps
incrementing, pmon may be having some troubles, and it can
take a long time for the process to go away. Because of
this, I usually (and with great care) kill the OS process
running that session, and I've never had problems with
sessions hanging around. But don't do this if you're using
MTS.
