Perhaps the last hint in the new "step 3" is also sufficient for Redhat (Didn't try it).

P.S. The hint is:

Put -Ldir before other flags in the $ORACLE_HOME/lib/ldflags file, where "dir" is the directory with the glibc2.1.3 compatible libraries. For Mandrake:
-L/usr/i386-glibc-linux/lib

Call $ORACLE_HOME/bin/relink all after you made the adjustment.
