I don't think it should be dangerous to run multiple instances on one box.

If you are woried about the reliability of the box, what are you doing putting any database on it in the first place!

Multiple instances or not is a non-issue, resources aside.

Is your computer any less able to run netscape 5 times or once, resources aside? - it shouldn't be.
