Several months ago I started to write up a list of questions that had appeared with monotonous regularity on this newsgroup.

So far I haven't had much success in writing up answers to those questions.

Mark Bobak recently volunteered an answer page to one of the items on my 'pending' list, and this has given me the idea of throwing out a suggestion for a 'co-operative FAQ' effort.

If anyone wants to be involved in writing up a few answers to FAQs, and if others spare the time to send in questions that are relevant, I am prepared to 'moderate' a FAQ on my website.

In general, I would aim to
a) Stick to server questions only, not tools b) Expect an answer to be a page or two in

     length, introducing the problem, explaining
the answer, and perhaps giving notes of when
the answer is and isn't appropriate.
c) quote a version number for which the answer
     has been tried and tested.
d) give the name (and email address where volunteered)
of those people who send in answers.
e) give some sort of rating to answers, along the
lines of 1- not read it myself, 2 - read it and taken
     it on trust, 3 - needs expanding, 4 - wish I'd written
it myself. (Possibly this needs two scales, one     reflecting comments from readers, one giving an     indication of status).

Any initial thoughts, suggestions, refinements can be posted to the ng or emailed direct to me with 'FAQ' in the heading.
