But as you point out, kernel extensions in AIX may be a problem. Solaris doesn't use these, so we didn't have much problems (other than the weird UNIX config changes the DB2 install makes...).

Sorry I can't help more, but my last AIX was three years ago and there was no DB2 there.
I think the kerne extensions would be mutually exclusive, ie, you wouldn't get a problem. But I can't guarantee this.
