In my current project I'm in an environment where they have used
autoextend on without further clauses. So what did they get?
Increment 2048 (= db_block_size) maxsize = 4G. As to the latter
parameter: the filesystem the tablespace is on, is not that big.
As to the former parameter: the autoextend has been applied to TEMP
and RBS. Which performance impact do you expect by having to extend
such a tablespace with 2k every time?
(This is not meant as a rhetorical question)
In short : autoextend on means you can't exercise control anymore, and
you will only notice it when the disk is full. I'm almost sure that
people which use autoextend in this fashion, can't resolve that
problem.
