Okay, I gave straight up technical answers in both threads. If I type
fast, and a little more colorfully than is proper on your side of the
pond, then so be it - life too short to clear cultural regs for each
country on the net.
I am quick, combative, and totally honest; as are most of my close technical companions. I find it to be a good environment for learning. I ask that you respond in kind, or indeed in whichever kind you prefer. I have no interest in convincing you that I am a 'hot-shot', this is just the way I talk.

: Now for the real post.

Oh good.

...and I *have* physically worked on both, and I don't think you're seeing an unbiased comparison! Did you have different sysadmins? Did they have sufficient training in their respective fields? Experience? How can you even *have* 3 full-time people supporting equivalent systems that a part-time person can handle? I suspect that those 3 people are not the cream of your organization....

It's obvious that when you need the muscle, you can step from a nice PC to a Sun 420 and on up; I totally advocate that, no argument here. I waded back into this thread b/c of the contention that Oracle on Linux is some kind of half-hacked job that no one can use, and I think that is just not the case.

anyhow.
