You almost certainly mean DBI/DBD::Oracle, Oraperl is defunct.

Sounds reasonable. You can check out Tim Bunce/Aligator Descarte's book http://www.ora.com/catalog/perldbi/
Theres a number of papers on the web. Here's mine: http://www.cse.psu.edu/~groenvel/IOUW2000/ If your DBA is a member of IOUG, have him fetch "Perl - The Definitive Guide" an excellent presentation from the same 2000 conference, but better written then mine.
