So far I'm running 8i standard, EE, on W2k server and PO on W2k Pro without any problem yet.

ver 8.1.7

8.1.6 has some known bugs. If more than certain amount of instances created (my experience is more than 3), the Oracle server can not be start. After apply patch or upgrage to 8.1.7 then, ok.
