ORA-03113 - when trying to startup DB

All,
I could do with some help after a little finger trouble broke a few things :-)
While creating a db from a set of datafiles I managed to point at the wrong set of datafiles while recreating the contol files with a "create database set ....." command. While I was sucessful in creating this new db I seem to have cause a few problems on the other db.

  1. A normal shutdown looked like it worked from svrmgl but there where a few background process running.
  2. After a few minutes to see if they would die I killed them

3 Attempting to conect with svrmgl gets an ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel

4 Restoring the dbf, control and init.ora files from tape did not help.

I'm starting to think that there is some half open IPC left from when I killed the processes - any pointers would be helpful

TIA
Rod
