Getting a conection established! [HOW?] Oracle 8.0.6

Hi all, I've just installed Oracle Ver 8.0.6 and having
a great deal of difficulty getting it to connect to source.
I have tried to add a new service through Net 8 Easy
config but no luck. I am running NT 4.0 if that helps
and have tried to use SYSTEM for user and MANAGER
for password as a friend of mine suggested but still no
luck.



All I want to do is use SQL Plus at this stage, so can
anyone


please help me with this, I'm now very desperate.



Any help truly appreciated.
