I can't tell from your question whether you have a Sun Server now or are planning to get one. Hoping that you actually can select a server to fit you needs, first determine what your needs are. If you already have a relationship with Sun and/or Oracle, they would help. Gather whatever information you have about the app you plan to run, (if it is an Oracle app) as far as system requirments are concerned. If you are creating a new Oracle app, (doing development), you should talk to your developers.

For the server, usually if you know the size of the intended database in GB, you can convert that into the necessary disk to house the DB and the OS. There are too many considerations to name in this forum, but after disk volume you can determine CPU and memory and size the server with input from all the key players including the vendors.
