First creating a dump file is mostly easiest way to porting a database from one database to another.

Creating on NT-machine you may use the utilities exp for creating the dump file and imp for importing. You need the same rights during the import process as for you had, when creating your dump file. Follow the prompts of the tool. (Sorry but I don not the name of the utilities under unix but as I remember they should nearly the same).

Problems may occur if you have different oracle releases, character sets and settings for the user who import the dump file.
