My experience with Linux is that you can trust it ... If the person setting it up knows what they are doing and isn't just playing with the operating system d'jour in their spare time.

But when I think Oracle I think Sun-Solaris. I think HP/UX. And I think Sequent.

If the database is vital then spend the money to do it correctly. But never forget that once you cross onto a UNIX platform it is not the time to scrimp on dollars for a good UNIX SA.
