Well, given that I have only the two spindles, and that I want to separate the redo logs and control files from the system and rollbacks, that means I would have to have both mirrors on the same spindle. Obviously, that would be a detriment to performance. So, since I will have the daily backups anyway and this is the dev platform, I'd rather just skip the mirrors on the redos and the control files.

True, there are lots of compromises at work here - that's what makes it difficult. But, I still think that there is a difference to be made in how things are set up, even with only two spindles. I have made my best guess. I'll let you know how it works (if I ever receive my freaking 8.1.7 CD's, that is (on backorder.....).
