Try the following - please note that it is useful to give OS and Oracle versions when posting requests for help

  1. Make sure the listener is started. On either NT or Unix, issue the command lsnrctl status If on Unix, do this as the oracle user. If on NT, do this from a command prompt (i.e DOS window) You should see a report that states that the listener is started and has one or more named services configured
  2. If the listener isn't started, you will need to start it On NT, start the listner service from the Control Panel. It will have a name like Ora???TNSListener or similar On Unix, as the oracle user, issue the command lsnrctl start In both cases, test the listener did indeed start with the command lsnrctl status
  3. If the listener did start, or was already started, and you still can't connect, please post tnsnames.ora, sqlnet.ora and listener.ora as text. I missed the earlier post where you may have sent these and can't find them on deja
